This is a split release with Friends And Relatives Records (also from Bloomington) Matty Pop Chart used to play drums in Abe Froman and still plays drums in Mt. Gigantic. But one day someone gave this little fellow a classical guitar and a paino and he started picking and plucking and hitting those keys and making some really nice music. I’m not sure what to call this music. I don’t know that it’s punk. But it is cheap so maybe. It’s songs. It’s soft most of the time. It’s acoustic. It’s not folk punk. I would use words like, charming, honest, endearing, nice, sweet and even cute. Did I mention talent, originality and moving lyrics?

MATTY POP CHART “Tunnel Session” TAPE
Matt Tobey with a slew of some of his most insightful and well written songs to date. Recorded by Justin Vollmar (Mt. Gigantic, Vollmar) in Bloomington, IN. This will move people and things thought to have been “in a hole” for the past 7 decades. With 13 tracks (about 32 minutes long) this album features wonderful musical additions from great friends such as Spoonboy, Erin Tobey, Chris Johnston, Justin Vollmar, Kimya Dawson and more. Full color artwork of construction paper cut-outs + drawings by Matt held together in a clear plastic jewel case wrap these sounds into a wondeful package. The cassette version was recorded in a large underground tunnel by Justin Vollmar (Mt. Gigantic, Vollmar). These beautifully lo-fi recordings feature Matt performing mostly songs from the “Good Old Water” CD with a background vocal choir consisting of his sister, Erin Tobey, and Theo Hilton (Nana Grizol). This further push into the conciousness of Mr. Tobey in his 19th year offers insight and clear breath breathing into a
world not unlike that of which could be found on the highest shelf in the very back of the largest library. (The CD version is about 32 minutes long, the cassette version is about 30 minutes long). Pop music made for the kitchen….like a non-depressed Leonard Cohen and members of “Of Montreal” singing together about the Beatles. Kind of. (Cd version co-released with Plan-It-X Records)

This is a sample of what Plan-It-X Records is about. 30 songs. At least 10 of these songs are pretty rare and a good few of those will only appear on this comp. This is like a welcome kit to Plan-It-X Records. If you haven’t heard any of the bands on Plan-It-X Records, start here. It’s cheap too.
